Vicki Birchall-Hunt

Hi, as it says my name is Vicki, born the year the Olympics came to Melbourne.  I grew up in suburban Sydney, my playground vacant scrub land, soon turned into a 9 hole golf course, which wasn’t too bad for an outdoor nut.  I attended Beverly Hills North Primary School, then Beverly Hills Girls High School.

I met my soul mate Paul in 1975, after a whirlwind courtship we were married early in 1976.  Our son Andrew was born later that same year, we then moved to Adelaide in November 1976, busy weren’t we.  Our daughter Annette followed in 1978.

Numerous trips around the South East of Australia, camping fishing, crabbing, & hiking, as a young family were memorable and lots of fun.

I worked at the Adelaide Festival Theatre for a few years where I met quite a few interesting and famous people.  Following a stint at Canon Australia, in 1986 Paul & I decided to move, lock, stock, children, and dog to Darwin and start our own business.  It ran successfully for a few years until Paul’s renal failure, which was first diagnosed in early 1979, decided to rear its ugly head.

We moved to Hervey Bay mid 1990 to be near my family who were to retire here, only we beat them by a year.  While caring for two teenagers was sometimes a fulltime job, Paul & I found time to get involved in Community groups, to give something back.

Paul started peritoneal dialysis in May 1993, dialysing four then five times a day for 3.5 years until we received that wonderful phone call, but that’s another story.  You can read it here if you’re interested.

Annette joined the Navy in 1995, and married her sailor in December 2000.

Our first Grandson Joshua Paul was born to Andrew and Kylee in November 2001.  Andrew and Kylee married in November 2002 and grandson number two Hayden James followed in June 2003.  Bub number three, Jasmine Tahlia, arrived in January 2005.

Now it is Paul & I at home, alone at last, except for two aquariums full of fish and some chooks down the back.  Peaceful?  Nah.  Restful?  Nah.  Happy?  Yes!!!
